NOTE: You're automatically resident if either: you spent 183 or more days in the UK in the tax year. Therefore, UK resident does NOT have to be a ‘permanent residence card’ holder.
 
It simply means as follows: Whether you're UK resident usually depends on how many days you spend in the UK in the tax year (6 April to 5 April the following year).  
You’re automatically resident if either:
 
you spent 183 or more days in the UK in the tax year
 
• your only home was in the UK - you must have owned, rented or lived in it for at least 91 days in total - and you spent at least 30 days there in the tax year.
 
So to sign directly on the UK Government Website you need to follow four simple steps.  The process is straightforward, but just in case: 
 
Step One
Go to theSign petitionSo if your e-mail is incorrect, you will not be able to do it.
 
 
 
 
 
  
 
 
 
 
 
Step Two: 
Check if the e-mail address you provided is correct. If there is a mistake you can still edit it at this stage. After you click the “Yes – this is my email addressBUTTON.
You will receive an e-mail with a link to confirm your vote. So if your e-mail is incorrect, you will not be able to do it.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Step Three: 
You do not need to do anything, it just tells you that an e-mail was sent to you and you check your e-mail to complete the signing process.
 
 
  
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Step Four: 
Go to your e-mail and open the e-mail from “Petitions: UK Government and Parliament”.
Inside you will find a link that you need to click on and your job is done.
